Top 100 Grunge Songs (100-76)

100-76 | 75-51 | 50-26 | 25-1

Over 20 years after the initial grunge explosion of the early 90s the genre is still a a lightning rod. The naysayers will point to the fact that the genre spawned some of the worst bands ever starting in the mid 90s and in some cases polluting our airwaves to this very day (hello Creed, Nickelback etc.). Of course the genre has legions of fervent followers who swear that Kurt Cobain still roams the Earth hand in hand with Elvis. Many of you know that I'm firmly in the latter camp (well, maybe short of the Elvis hyperbole). Each genre has to be taken at face value for the creativity, influence and impact that it had on the music scene. Besides, you cannot blame the Beatles for having influenced shitty bands like Panic at the Disco, can you?

Wow this list is ocmpletely dominated by by Alice in Chains, Nirvana, Soundgarden, and Pearl Jam. But that is exactly how it should be ;-) Also bush shouldnt be on the list, they are more alternative or post grunge. Puddle of Mudd needs to be taken off now. That is not grunge at all, and they don't deserve to be on this list. Seriously, Famous? Psycho? please, I could name 50 much better grunge songs that are actually grunge.

Bush ain't going anywhere. Puddle of Mudd is a valid point. I think that more than any bands of the 2000s they are closest to grunge. Most would probably call them Post-Grunge, but I decided to lump them in.

Heaven Beside You at number 3?!?!?!? I dont agree with that statement but I wont complain. That song is one of the greatest of all time in any genre.

Puddle of Mudd, definately post-grunge..they ripped off L7's "Pretend We're Dead" when making "She Hates Me" ..just listen to the riff and you can repeatedly say "She F@ckin hates meeee! (trust?) she f@ckin hates me....."
L7 was a band that had Joan Jett, began in 1985

I don't think many people would argue that Puddle of Mudd is particularly inventive. They are who we thought they are...

Puddle of Mudd needs to go. Bush stays. Bush was considered Europes Nirvana at the time. They just released a new albumn....go check it out!

this is the worst list i have encountered. you dont include any of the bands that made this genre what it is today. you only included commercial bands and L7 which are still a known band. this list is officially a fail list.

Jim,

As you can see, I'm quite the AIC fan. Sludge Factory is definitely one of their more underrated songs but couldn't quite crack the top 100 grunge songs.

Satisfying list. Great job. Would only add STPs "Sin", Soundgarden's "A Room a Thousand Year's Wide,"and AICs "Godam."

Thanks Adam. Gotta tell you though, God Am is an odd choice though. It's easily one of my least favorite AIC songs. Also, Sin is my least favorite song off Core (still not a bad song overall though). You have interesting taste.
